How to Conquer Cravings
This week's Discussion Topic on Facebook LIVE @AretiGoddessEvents and its a big one Goddesses! Cravings, Addictions are more common than we think. In fact they are not limited to alcohol, drugs, gambling, the most commonly known. Would you believe that we are all addicted to something? It may be work, money, shopping, eating, sex, love, fantasy, cleaning, exercise, the list is endless.
We begin to do something and it feels good, so we just keep doing it, thinking we can stop at any time, until we can't. A craving becomes an addiction when it takes over and impacts your life. It may cost your family, your finances, your job, your friends. Why is it that we have addictions?
Addictions cover underlying issues like anxiety, depression, sleep disorders for instance, though they are rooted in feelings we experience as children. That void, or hole we feel that needs filling. That is why doing Inner child work, (one of the methods I use in coaching), is essential. By working with our inner child we are able to change the Blueprint we unwittingly create as toddlers.
HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO CONQUER YOUR CRAVINGS!
1. Make a decision to change. Set a Goal and find someone, like a coach, or a friend, to keep you accountable.
2. Prepare for the change. This means removing temptations from your environment, or refraining from situations that can trigger certain behaviours, like sex addiction for instance.
3. Quitting an Addiction can be very lonely. Join Support Groups, gather your friends.
4. Begin CBT or Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, a method I also employ in coaching. This is all about changing your mind and changing your Life!
When we stop something we are addicted to, we experience life in a different way. It doesn't seem as exciting! We need to learn to find satisfaction in "normal" life and we can rediscover the magic! The most important thing is not to stress, we become addicted to things because we like them. Think about it as choosing to bond with something else, your inner Self! I hope that empowers you today!
